"So we've just got to try on the hat!" Ron whispered to Harry. "I'll kill Fred, he was going on about wrestling a troll."
"Everyone here? You there, still got yer toad?"
Harry looked at Ron, and was relieved to see by his stunned face that he hadn't learned all the course books by heart either.
"Ah, music," he said, wiping his eyes. "A magic beyond all we do here! And now, bedtime. Off you trot!"
"He is," said the first twin. "Aren't you?" he added to Harry.
"Help yourself," said Harry. "But in, you know, the Muggle world, people just stay put in photos."
"Where do you come from, anyway?" Harry asked.
"Not a wizard, eh? Never made things happen when you was scared or angry?"
Harry tried to wave the owl out of the way, but it snapped its beak fiercely at him and carried on savaging the coat.
"SILENCE!" yelled Uncle Vernon, and a couple of spiders fell from the ceiling. He took a few deep breaths and then forced his face into a smile, which looked quite painful.
"How to get onto the platform?" she said kindly, and Harry nodded.
"Now, you two -- this year, you behave yourselves. If I get one more owl telling me you've -- you've blown up a toilet or --"
"So proud, Mr. Potter, I'm just so proud."
"It's on my ticket."
"Could do with some of those letters now, eh?" he said cheerfully.
Passersby stared a lot at Hagrid as they walked through the little town to the station. Harry couldn't blame them. Not only was Hagrid twice as tall as anyone else, he kept pointing at perfectly ordinary things like parking meters and saying loudly, "See that, Harry? Things these Muggles dream up, eh?",
